Pairings is a slightly more indulgent type of bar; Head Somellier Kelly is Pairings’ wine matchmaker, and after just a brief description of what you like in a wine, Kelly will be able to pick the perfect bottle to suit your tastes. York’s own wine cupid!
Somehow Kelly and Kate have been able to seamlessly create the perfect space for both casual events, and special occasions. The contemporary décor of detailed feature wallpaper and blue suede furnishings makes for a fresh daytime spot, but with the subtle additions of mood lighting and flickering candles, the space is transformed into what can only be described as a dream date-night location. And with cupid in the building, you’ll find it hard not to fall in love with Pairings.
Next up, Wildes. Nestled in amongst the oh-so-charming buildings on Grape Lane, Wildes is the perfect spot to stumble into if you’ve lost your way down those York side streets. This family-run wine bar proves to be a hit amongst tourists and locals alike for its friendly and easy-going atmosphere, which has been mastered through reasonable pricing, a warm and friendly service, and as you’ll soon find out, a really, really great location.
The wine menu at Wildes stays true to its nature – customer friendly, supplying all the well-loved classics including a Savignon Blanc from South Africa, a Zinfandel Rose from California, and a Pinot Noir all the way from New Zealand.
