In the centre of York, The Grand has a well earned reputation as the finest place to stay. The city’s only five star hotel offers optimum luxury and comfort, with a range of elegant suites and relaxing rooms to indulge in. But there is plenty more to The Grand too, with a strong heritage and many amazing experiences to make the most out of this special space. Here are five great things you can do at The Grand York.

Dine & Drink

The bars and restaurants of The Grand are as suitably stunning as the building in which they reside. The 1906 Bar allows you to lounge in the elevated comfort of expertly served cocktails, whilst The Rise Restaurant, Terrace & Bar is a beautiful space with an open kitchen which offers modern British cuisine. As well as breakfast and dinner here, you can enjoy afternoon tea al fresco in The Courtyard and The Terrarium to take in the spectacular views of the city walls. To make your stay even more luxurious, there are tasty upgrades available, where champagne, chocolate and strawberries can be delivered to your room. And this August, The Grand will be opening up a eight course tasting menu with pairing wine flight; this is fine dining with locality and provenance at the heart.

To add to the tranquility of The Grand, you can escape to their secluded spa. This atmospheric space in the building’s former vaults makes for a wonderful retreat, where you can refresh and revitalise. There is a 14 meter swimming pool and state of the art gym to stay healthy in, plus a sauna, steam room, whirlpool and relaxation lounge in which to drift away and rejuvenate. And to pamper further, why not treat yourself to a treatment? From massages to manicures, there’s something to make everyone feel their best self.

Discover History

The handsome building which homes the appropriately named Grand dates back to 1906. Originally built as a ‘Palace of Business’ for the North Eastern Railway Company, the architecture retains many of its Edwardian features. These were enhanced in 2010 when the site was revived to the splendour which can be explored today. See the award winning exterior design and the opulent interior, where high ceilings, tall windows, lofty arches, high-end materials and open spaces create a modern luxury from an ancient past.

Cookery School

An unexpected addition to The Grand is their terrific cookery school, at which novice cooks and aspiring chefs can learn to produce the fabulous food served here. Classes offer an ideal environment for all, with full day, half day, express, or parent and child options. These all include the enjoyment of sitting down to tuck into your culinary creation afterwards. There are three-day educational classes with options for both beginners and intermediate; and for the serious foodie, the Experiential offers multiple classes with the opportunity to learn from some of the best local food and drink businesses.

Unique Experiences

The Grand has a whole array of unique experiences both in and out of the hotel. Linking up with great organisations of York, you can take part in a number of activities, whether as a guest at the hotel or not. Try outdoor adventures such as quad biking, axe throwing and archery; go on a gin journey through Masons and Hendricks Gin; explore the city with one of their offers on sightseeing tours and city passes; and impress with your celebratory event, bespoke wedding or private dining here, to make that special occasion especially grand.
