St Nicks Environment Centre and Nature Reserve is nestled in an urban area – the green heart of York. The site has a vibrant history and was transformed from a disused landfill into a rich and biodiverse green space now maintained, nurtured and visited regularly by the local community.

Our nature reserve is home to over 1,000 species and appeals to a wide range of explorers from regular dog walkers and nature lovers, to keen amateur wildlife photographers and bird spotters.

The Centre itself is open to the public; offering educational and hands-on guidance around recycling, eco-friendly practises and carbon-neutral living. We run a host of activities supporting personal wellbeing and courses about carbon neutral lifestyles and life on the reserve including habitat management and scything.

Nature reserve is open all day every day. Environment Centre opening hours vary so checking the website is advised. Staff are welcoming and keen to share their depth of knowledge, come pay us a visit.
