Ambiente Tapas has four locations, one on Goodramgate, one on Fossgate, and two others outside of York in Leeds and Hull. Another one of York’s best restaurants, Ambiente Tapas is a great environment for couples, families, and meeting friends (and sharing tapas between a group!). The food is excellent and inventive, and a great value for money. Come for lunch between 12-5 Monday-Friday and get any three select tapas dishes for £11.95!
York has no shortage of delicious Italian restaurants, and neither does Goodramgate thanks to Caesars. Serving up pizza, pasta, and all your favorite Italian dishes, everything at Caesars is cooked fresh and they have a great range of desserts. Cut & Chase is another great restaurant located on Goodramgate. Opened in 2016, this is definitely one of York’s trendiest restaurants. It also blends seamlessly into a buzzing cocktail bar in the evenings. They even do cocktail masterclasses for special events!
Another Goodramgate staple that effortlessly mixes between café and bar is The Habit. This is another one of the best bars in York, and they also have live music quite often. Their rooftop terrace has a gorgeous view of York Minster, which might just be the best kept secret in York.
Located just off Goodramgate is Crumbs Cupcakery. These are by far the best cupcakes in York! This cafe isn’t very big, but they do have plenty of outdoor seating with a fantastic view of York Minster and the beautiful Great East Window. If you’re looking for a nice coffee shop to sit down and have a cuppa, you couldn’t pick better than Crumbs.
There are quite a lot of interesting shops on Goodramgate if you’re wanting to do some shopping. The Monkbar Model Shop is definitely one-of-a-kind, with a special focus on model railways. After all, York is home to the National Railway Museum! Rafi’s Spicebox is another unique shop on Goodramgate. If you’re looking for spices, new recipe ideas, or just want to learn more about Indian cooking, you’ll find it in Rafi’s. They have several shops across the north of England including their York location!
With its enviable location so close to York Minster, Goodramgate has lots of historical features. Our Lady’s Row is the oldest surviving row of houses in York, dating back to 1316. The houses are rather simple, with timbered framing, and of course are now home to different businesses.
Holy Trinity Church, Goodramgate is one of York’s true hidden gems. While Goodramgate is always busy with people coming and going, this medieval church dates mainly to the 15th century. It’s certainly worth popping in for a wander, with its unique box pews and beautiful stained glass windows. Holy Trinity Church also has a particularly lovely garden. It’s a quiet oasis that not very many people even notice as they pass by on Goodramgate! You can also access Holy Trinity Church from Petergate and the Hornpot Lane snickelway.
Goodramgate is home to so many wonderful cafes, restaurants, bars, and shops. It’s located in the heart of York city center, and conveniently around the corner from York Minster. Too many people race through this area after a visit to the Minster, but there’s plenty to see and do on Goodramgate in York!
