Happy International Women’s Day!

With Mother’s Day following so closely after International Women’s Day, what better way to celebrate our Mum’s and all that they do, whilst supporting our local indies run by women. Consider this your guide to finding that perfect gift!

For beautifully crafted homewares, cards, jewellery, womenswear and accessories, head to Noun, on Bishopthorpe Road. Owned by friends Gaynor Parr-Manley and Ellie McManaman, the pair began their retail ventures on Bishopthorpe Road separately; Ellie previously ran Bare, a baby and children’s clothing shop, and Gaynor previously ran Olive’s Nest, a homeware and gift store. After quickly forming a strong friendship, Gaynor’s decision to close Olive’s Nest led Ellie to suggest forming a new shop together. And so, Noun was born! Check out their collection online.

Baking small-batch, Scandinavian-inspired pastries and more, it’s certainly worth getting up early to get your hands on a bag full of treats for Mother’s Day.

Flowers by Paula (York Fresh Flowers)

What would Mother’s Day be without a good ol’ bunch of flowers? After selling flowers for over 20 years on a stall on Davygate, 2020 marked the year for Paula to open an additional Bricks and Mortar shop on Fishergate, aptly named ‘York Fresh Flowers’. The business continues to be a success story, and to get your own bunch of the blooms, you can head to their website to buy fresh bouquets, basket arrangements, floral gift baskets and more.
